Trump Sentenced To 'Unconditional Discharge' In Hush Money Case

NEW YORK CITY — President-elect Donald Trump has been sentenced in the Stormy Daniel's hush money case.

Judge Juan Merchan on Friday sentenced Trump to unconditional discharge, which means the president-elect will not face imprisonment, fines or probation.

Legal experts have said it's a decision that would conclude the hush money case without interfering with Trump's return to the White House.

Merchan during his ruling said the legal protections afforded by the presidency "do not reduce the seriousness of the crime or justify its commission in any way."

“One power they do not provide is the power to erase a jury verdict,” Merchan said.

“It is the legal protections afforded to the office of the President of the United States that are extraordinary, not the occupant of the office."

Friday's ruling comes after Trump's unsuccessful attempt to get the Supreme Court to vacate his sentencing.

A New York appeals court judge on Tuesday also denied a Trump defense lawyer's attempt to get his sentencing vacated, Patch previously reported.

Trump's sentencing comes days before the scheduled presidential inauguration on Jan. 20.

Trump had been scheduled to be sentenced on Nov. 26 after he was convicted on 34 felony counts related to hush money payments made to adult film actress Stormy Daniels, Patch previously reported.
