Watch: The Nastiest Flower On Earth Is Blooming In The Bronx
The "Corpse Flower" gives off a scent of death.

BRONX, NEW YORK – The smelliest flower on earth is in full bloom in The Bronx.
Amorphophallus titanum, or the “Corpse Flower,” is one of the largest flowers in the world and is known for its disgusting smell. People often compare it to the scent of rotting meat and dead animals.
The flowering started Tuesday at the Bronx Botanical Garden, with a webcam beaming the event to viewers. The flower can take decades to bloom.

Bronx Borough President James J. Lyons named the Corpse Flower the official flower of the Bronx in the 1930s after the first to bloom in the Western Hemisphere flowered in the borough – it's native to Indonesia.
It creates somewhat of a cultural sensation every time it decides to show up – and it is a big deal that this plant flowered just two years ago.

Locals, tourists, botanists, and science-lovers have come from all over to see the Corpse Flower before it closes back up.
If you want experience the rare flower for yourself, you’ll have to head to the Botanical Garden quickly – it only remains in bloom for a few days.
