Woof, NYC's Most Popular Pet Names Are Purrfect

Naming a cat or dog can be ruff — see what New Yorkers chose in 2022, according to Rover.

NEW YORK CITY — New Yorkers didn't give their dogs — or cats — a bad name this year, a new pet-friendly ranking shows.

Charlie, Milo and Leo fetched the top three spots for most popular male dog and cat names in New York City during 2022, according to Rover, a popular pet sitting site.

And Luna scratched out the top spot as the most popular name for female cats and dogs, the ranking found.

The overlap in pet name popularity perhaps speaks to New Yorkers' lives in 2022, at least according to the Rover ranking.

"While the trends change, one thing remains the same: The names dog owners choose to give their pets are often a direct reflection of who they are, what they like, and what’s going on in the world at the time," the ranking states.
