Hochul to restore the Newburgh-Beacon ferry, even as the state boosts free shuttle buses starting January 2026. Advocates say traffic-clogged bridge trips can take 45 minutes, compared with an eight- to ten-minute ferry ride, and argue weekend service would expand access to jobs and recreation.
   

2. Newburgh, NY Receives Slice of $20 Million Windfall (hudsonvalleypost.com) — Newburgh is set to receive $2 million through New York’s Project RISE initiative, bringing major new support to local youth programs focused on violence prevention, mental health, and job training. Several Newburgh organizations, including the Boys and Girls Club and Newburgh Armory Unity Center, will share and re-grant the money to smaller grassroots groups serving city youth.

5. 20-Year-Old Admits To Slashing Victim's Face From Behind On The Street In Newburgh (patch.com) — A 20-year-old Newburgh resident has pleaded guilty to first-degree attempted assault after slashing a man’s face from behind on Van Ness Street, leaving the victim with a serious facial injury. Prosecutors plan to seek an eight-year prison sentence plus post-release supervision, and officials say the case shows violent disputes in the City of Newburgh will be aggressively prosecuted.
