NEW CITY, NY — John Adams famously said, "Liberty cannot be preserved without a general knowledge among the people, who have a right … and a desire to know."

There are plenty of upcoming chances to help tend to our democracy close to the roots. On Wednesday, the Clarkstown Planning Board will hold a public hearing about Vanderbilt Grande, a plan to demolish all existing structures on a five-acre site on the east side of Route 304 in New City, 460 feet south of Congers Road, and build senior housing development of four 4-story buildings with 100 2-bedroom units, plus a community building, and 250 parking spaces.
