Engel Backs Carlucci for state Senate

New City Democrat gets a boost from his old boss.

While working in U.S. Rep. Eliot Engel's office, David Carlucci says he got the type of one-on-one experience working with the public that helps him today as Clarkstown's town clerk.

Now in his third term at town clerk, Carlucci is getting a boost from his old boss in his effort to get a new job - as a state senator.

Engel on Tuesday endorsed Carlucci's campaign for the state Senate for the 38th District. The district includes all of Rockland County and part of Orange County.  Engel's 17th Congressional District overlaps the 38th Senate District.

"David Carlucci and I have worked together for years, and because of that relationship, I know firsthand that he is the right person to represent the people of his district in the state Senate," Engel said.  "David has demonstrated his commitment to making government work for the people as Town Clerk of Clarkstown."

Carlucci has been endorsed by the Rockland County Democratic Party to run for the Senate seat being vacated by state Sen. Thomas Morahan, R-New City, who is battling leukemia and has decided against seeking re-election.

Rockland County Executive C. Scott Vanderhoef has the Republican Party's backing in the race for Morahan's seat.

"There is much work to be done and I am certain that David's hard work and dedication to the people of Rockland and Orange Counties will help our state move past these difficult times," Engel said. "This election is too important, we need David Carlucci in Albany to help solve our serious problems. I look forward to partnering with David to create jobs, protect the environment and secure a prosperous future for generations of New Yorkers."

Carlucci also has the backing of U.S. Rep. Nita Lowey, whose district includes New City.

"I am honored to have the endorsement of such a hardworking advocate for hardworking families as Congressman Engel," Carlucci said. "I am proud to have worked as part of his staff, and I know that we can hit the ground running to tackle the difficult issues facing the people of New York. The public knows we need a new direction in Albany, and I plan on working everyday to ensure Albany listens to the voices of Rockland and Orange counties."
