Rockland County Executive OKs Redistricting Plan

The law will go into effect Jan. 1, 2024, and will affect those running for the Legislature in 2023.

ROCKLAND COUNTY, NY — Rockland County has new voting districts based on the 2020 Census that will affect candidates running in 2023.

On Tuesday, County Executive Ed Day signed off on the redistricting that had been approved by the Legislature, the Journal News reported.

Day said he and his administration found that there was no disparate impact on minorities and many of the concerns that were raised were addressed.

The redistricting process had a narrow population deviation, retained the existing Hispanic Minority District based in Haverstraw and rebalanced minority populations and communities of interest.

The new redistricting takes effect Jan. 1, 2024. Candidates running for County Legislature in 2023 will be seated in the new district seats on Jan. 1, 2024.
