'Suspicious' Suitcase at Park Turns Out to be Harmless
Anonymous caller alerts police to unattended bag.
An unattended suitcase found at a Nanuet park was blown up by police as a precaution Thursday night, although the bag's contents turned out to be harmless.
Clarkstown police said an anonymous caller reported the red suitcase at Veterans Park at the corner of Route 59 and Middletown Road in Nanuet at 3:50 p.m. Clarkstown police said the Sheriff's Department's bomb squad was called in to assist with their investigation of the bag.
Police took an x-ray of the bag and they decided to blow it up. After destroying the bag around 7 p.m., the contents were visible - a can of corn, two cans of tuna, a manual can opener and a pair of pliers.
