A look at crimes in the towns surrounding New Hyde Park

The following arrest information was supplied by several local police departments. A criminal charge is only an accusation and does not indicate convictions.

New Hyde Park
A fire occurred at 1629 Falmouth Ave. on August 2 at 12:42 a.m. It was extinguished at about 1:09 a.m.

Mineola
A Mineola man was among 10 arrested by Nassau County Police and the Hempstead Police during a “Project 21” initiative, which targets the sale of alcoholic beverages and tobacco products to minors.

two-car accident occurred at 11 Jerome Ave. on August 1 at 10:40 p.m. No entrapment was reported.

Roslyn Heights
A car accident occurred on the westbound side of the Long Island Expressway near the Willis Avenue exit on August 2 at 5:52 p.m. causing heavy delays.

Old Westbury
A car accident occurred at 6:12 p.m. on August 2 on the westbound side of the Long Island Expressway and Glen Cove Road causing delays. The Roslyn Fire Department was alerted and responded to the scene.

Bethpage
The homicide squad is investigating a fatal car accident that occurred on August 2 at 1:47 a.m. According to detectives, Hao Duc Bui, 31, of Bethpage was walking in the westbound lanes on Central Avenue near Sheridan Avenue when he was struck by a 2006 Jeep traveling westbound on Central Avenue. The 24 year old male operator did stop and police were called. The victim was pronounced at the scene by a Nassau County Ambulance Medical Technician. The vehicle was impounded for brake and safety inspection. This investigation is on going.

Floral Park
A fire occurred at 30 Elizabeth St. involving multiple cars on August 2 at 3:40 a.m. and threatening the side of a two-story home. New Hyde Park Fire Department members also responded to the scene.

Garden City
On July 26 a female worker at a Garden City business reported receiving a phone call from a male who stated that her husband was involved in an auto accident with a gang member, is being held hostage, and would be killed unless an unspecified ransom be paid. This was determined to be a scam after finding the husband was not involved in an accident and was at his place of employment.

As the result of an investigation conducted with Esquire Bank Staff, Officer Wehr arrested a male 21-year-old from the Bronx and a female 28-year-old from Brooklyn on July 26 for attempting to cash two forged checks totaling $3,500 at the bank. Both subjects were charged with possession of forged instruments and attempted grand larceny.
