New Hyde Park Memorial High School Names Top 2020 Students

The school on Monday unveiled the valedictorian and salutatorian for the Class of 2020.

NEW HYDE PARK, NY — New Hyde Park Memorial High School has unveiled its top two students for the Class of 2020. Saba Gulzar was named the valedictorian Monday and Megha Gopal was named the salutatorian.

Gulzar has studied skin grafting at Stony Brook University and learned about genetics and molecular biology at Columbia University. As a junior, she was the sole recipient of the Bausch and Lomb Honorary Science Award. In addition to being a youth squad captain with the Glen Oaks Volunteer Ambulance Corps, Gulzar also regularly accompanies emergency medical technicians on calls in the community. Furthermore, she is a member of the student council, the volleyball team and numerous clubs and honor societies. She has a 103.23 GPA.

Gopal, meanwhile, is a National Merit Semifinalist. She took neuroscience classes at Columbia University, as well as probability and organic chemistry. She also attended the National Youth Leadership Forum on Medicine and received a Johns Hopkins Research Grant of $600 to conduct research on innovative ways to clean landfills. As a junior, Gopal was awarded the Rensselaer Medal and she has participated in various research projects through the Long Island Science and Engineering Fair and the Long Island Science Congress. She has a 103.02 GPA.
