Arrest Made After Fatal Freeport Crash: Police
The arrested motorist now faces charges including tampering with physical evidence, police say.
FREEPORT, NY. — A 24-year-old woman has been arrested in connection with the Nov. 8 crash that took the life of 76-year-old West Babylon resident Octavio Dejesus Espinal Sime, police said Monday night.
Espinal Sime was hit while crossing North Grove Street on Nov. 8 and hospitalized in critical condition that night, police said. He died from his injuries 11 days later, while the car that struck him left the scene, police said.
Nassau County police said Monday night that 24-year-old Wyandanch resident Heidy Zelaya Almendarez had been arrested in connection with the crash. Almendarez now faces charges of leaving the scene of an incident without reporting with a fatality and tampering with physical evidence, police said. Her arraignment took place Monday, police said.
