Northwell Doctor Named House Call Physician Of The Year

A Northwell Health doctor was chosen as the only home care physician in the nation to be named House Call Physician of the Year by the American Academy of Home Care Medicine.

Joseph Milano, medical director of Northwell Health’s House Calls program, was recognized at the American Academy of Home Care Medicine’s (AAHCM) annual meeting last month in Rosemont, Illinois.

"We congratulate Dr. Milano in receiving the prestigious House Call Physician of the Year award,” said Kristofer Smith, MD senior vice president, Office of Population Health Management at Northwell Health. “He has proven himself to be a dedicated, value-driven and selfless physician in our field.”

The AAHCM House Call Physician of the Year award recognizes one physician nationwide each year who provides quality services, innovative programs and shows continued dedication to the field of home care medicine.

Milano has headed Northwell’s House Calls program since 2014, where he provides direct care and supervises a staff that delivers health care to elderly patients in their homes in Nassau and Suffolk counties and Queens.

“Dr. Milano has been instrumental in growing the House Calls program by more than 50 percent so that our interdisciplinary staff is able to serve a census of approximately 1,250 patients daily,” Smith said. “With the strong support of his staff, Dr. Milano has helped to enhance services to patients and to improve the quality and operational reliability of the program.”

Before joining Northwell’s House Calls, Milano was chief of palliative medicine at Huntington Hospital for four years. He also worked in the psychiatry and substance abuse field at Holliswood Hospital in Queens and Southside Hospital in Bay Shore.
