25 Days Of Volunteering—Day 1: Open Door Care Network's New Pajamas Donation Drive

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — 'Tis the season for giving back to your community. There are a number of ways that you and your family can help others through the holidays.

Every day through Christmas, Patch will be highlighting a way you can provide compassion and resources to those in need.

Volunteer New York! makes it easy to find ways to help — through donations, supporting nonprofits and even volunteering from home.

Today's opportunity is supporting a New Pajamas Donation Drive for the Open Door Care Network.

Many families do not have pajamas to sleep in at night—but volunteers can help change that. Open Door Care Network is seeking volunteers to host their own donation drives to collect new pajamas. These pajamas will then be donated to Open Door and distributed to families during annual holiday events, as part of the Baby Bundles program, and whenever there's a crisis where families need pajamas.

This is the perfect project for friends, neighbors, coworkers, classmates, or other groups to share the joy of a cozy night's sleep with families in need.

This is a self-directed opportunity that volunteers can complete remotely:

1. Collect NEW pajamas or pajama sets in the original packaging/tags. All sizes and genders are welcome. Volunteers are encouraged to place a bin in a noticeable place with signage or coordinate a pajama party where friends drop off their items.
2. Express interest below (or "Express Interest As a Family, Group or Team" if participating with 1 or more other volunteers) to record this opportunity in your Volunteer New York! profile and to alert the volunteer coordinator.
3. The coordinator will connect with you to arrange a donation drop-off date.

Open Door Care Network provides health care and wellness programs to individuals and families in need throughout Westchester, Putnam, Ulster and Dutchess Counties. A pioneer Federally Qualified Health Center, Open Door provides more than 300,000 patient visits annually and serves over 62,000 individual patients who might not otherwise have access to care.
