Bronx Man Arrested With Ecstasy After New Rochelle Car Crash: Police

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — A native of the village and the passenger in her 2013 Volkswagen Jetta were sent to Montefiore New Rochelle Hospital for minor injuries on Monday after a Bronx man who was sporadically driving a 2022 BMW struck the woman’s vehicle from behind while on the I-95, according to state police.

At 3 p.m. authorities responded to a report of a two-car personal injury crash in New Rochelle involving Angel Almonte, 26, the driver of the BMW and Maria Miano, 53, who was driving the Volkswagen, the state police reported.

Almonte was allegedly observed driving at unsafe speeds, making multiple dangerous lane changes and was driving too close to Miano before the crash, according to the report.

During the crash investigation, Almonte allegedly threw what appeared to be a handgun over a fence on the right side of the roadway, before being detained and searched, according to state troopers.

The search revealed that he allegedly was in possession of 20 grams of Ecstasy and upon locating the gun, it was determined to be a toy Glocvk with a black drum magazine, troopers said.

Almonte was arrested and charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance, a Class B Felony, and obstructing governmental administration, a Class A Misdemeanor, according to state police.
