Why are you seeking this office?
I am running for re-election to continue the work I’ve started as well as to get back to basics. Our Village has lost its way, and we must get back to listening to the residents and working collaboratively for the benefit of everyone. Not enough progress has been made on flooding, pedestrian safety, and keeping taxes down with fiscally responsible decisions. We also must protect our community character and environment by maintaining our public parks and addressing our crumbling infrastructure.
What are the major differences between you and the other candidates (s) seeking this post?
Through my professional work as an architectural historian specializing on community history and environmental review, I have 40 years of experience working with local state and federal government and agencies; I know how government works. Additionally, having served as a trustee for six years and understanding how the Village budget works, I believe I can be most effective in delivering services while not overburdening the taxpayers.
What is the single most pressing issue facing your constituents and what do you intend to do about it?
Being an elected official is about listening to residents and determining priorities. It’s also about looking at the future and planning for it. This starts with fiscally responsible decisions when assessing the budget and capital expenditures. We need a five year capital budget to address all of our critical issues including mitigating devastating and frequent flooding which impacts many residents. Flooding is an existential emergency and the Army Corps plan is not enough. We must keep objects out of the floodway, tighten and enforce our building codes and work with upstream communities to adopt a comprehensive approach to flood mitigation. We must also provide better transparency and communication from the administration and elected officials to keep everyone safe and informed.
