NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Police are investigating the suspicious death of a dog discovered in a trash bag on a city street.

On Thursday, shortly before 4:30 p.m., New Rochelle police responded to a report of a dead dog in the Glenwood Lake area, near Gloucester Place. At the scene, officers saw a torn contractor-style garbage bag on the roadside containing the body of a large brown p it bull.

An initial investigation found several wounds on the dog that did not appear consistent with the early stages of decomposition, according to police. A neighbor reported seeing the bag intact on the roadside the previous day, but did not investigate further. On Thursday, that resident alerted police after seeing that the bag had been torn open, revealing the dead dog.
