New Rochelle police said the grifter approached a business, demanding money for fake equipment inspections.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Police are warning the community that a scammer posing as a fire inspector has approached a business, demanding money for fake equipment inspections.
Officials say that legitimate fire inspectors will never request immediate payment, and note that real New Rochelle Fire Department personnel will always be in uniform during inspections, and be driving an official vehicle with NRFD logos.
Police are telling business owners to take precautions if someone approaches claiming to be an inspector. Officials say to ask for identification, look for official logos, and verify with your local fire department before making any sort of payment.
