NEW ROCHELLE, NY — New Rochelle has a new community solar farm, but you won't see it when you drive past.

SolarKal, a commercial solar advisory firm, and EPR Properties, a real estate investment trust, collaborated to develop a major community solar project atop EPR's 230,000-square-foot New Roc City entertainment complex in New Rochelle. EPR Properties says that the introduction of a source of renewable solar power will be directly reinvested into the community.

The 1.4 MW solar installation is designed to generate over 1.8 million kWh of clean energy every year, which would cut 1,236 metric tons of carbon emissions.

As the anchor subscriber, EPR Properties will power the building's common areas with renewable energy, while also providing nearby residents and businesses with access to discounted community solar subscriptions. Around 150 community solar subscribers are expected to benefit from utility bill savings through the project.

"We’re excited to see our solar project with SolarKal and G&S near completion, bringing a sustainable energy solution that will have a meaningful local impact," Cassie Lane, Director of Asset Management at EPR Properties, said.

After conducting a feasibility analysis across EPR's properties, SolarKal identified the New Roc City location as an ideal candidate for community solar.

"SolarKal is proud to help EPR Properties unlock financial value from their rooftop while advancing their sustainability goals,” said Neil Sharma, Chief Commercial Officer at SolarKal. "This project lowers operating costs, generates long-term lease revenue, and delivers real energy savings to the community. As someone who grew up playing hockey in New Roc City, it's especially rewarding to see this building become a model for positive impact."

Final construction is underway, with SolarKal providing ongoing project management.

"This project is a great example of how solar can deliver benefits beyond the rooftop," Abe Naparstek, Chief Operating Officer at G&S Solar, said. "We're proud to work with SolarKal and EPR Properties to bring clean, affordable energy to New Rochelle while helping meet the state's ambitious climate goals."
