New Rochelle Votes: Hear From The Candidates In Their Own Words

The League of Women Voters of New Rochelle will host the second half of a two-part local candidates forum.

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — Early voting is just days away, but there's still time to learn about the candidates vying for elected office.

There may be no better way to educate yourself as a voter than to hear straight from the horse's mouth and thanks to the League of Women voters, you can accomplish this in person or watch from home.

The League of Women Voters of New Rochelle will hold the second half of a two-part local candidates forum on Monday at 6 p.m. at New Rochelle City Hall.

The forum will start with the candidates for County Legislative District 11, incumbent Terry A. Clements (D), and John T. Hynes (R, Neighborhood Party).

The candidates for the five of six city council districts that are contested will take the stage immediately after.

  • District 1: Martha L. Lopez (D, Working Families Party), and Philip A. Sidoti (R, Common Sense Party).
  • District 3: Kwamain L. Dixon (WFP) and David Peters (D); District 4: Shane Osinloye (D, WFP) and Patricia Zaffo (R).
  • District 5: Judy Jakab-Derocco (R) and incumbent Sara R. Kaye (D); and District 6: Joseph I. Farca (R, Common Sense) and Matthew A. Stern (D).

In District 2, incumbent Albert Tarantino has no opponent and will not participate.

Questions from the public may be submitted at the event or emailed ahead to cselin@aol.com. District-specific questions for county and city seats are encouraged.

NRTV will broadcast the forum live on Verizon Channel 28 and Cablevision Channel 75. It will also be available for replay on demand on the days before the November 7 general election.

The October 16 forum featuring the candidates for mayor and for county legislator is available on the LWV New Rochelle website .

A league moderator from outside the area represented in each forum will conduct the forum.

Volunteers from the Westchester Chapter Alumnae of the Delta Sigma Theta sorority will register voters at a table at the forum.
