Owner Accused Of Dealing Cocaine From Wine Shop On Main Street: Police

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — New Rochelle police have arrested a local business owner in a long-running drug and weapons probe.

Detectives from the New Rochelle Police Department's Criminal Investigations Division arrested 28-year-old Amir Babiker, a resident of New Rochelle, following a monthslong investigation into illegal drug sales and weapons possession at his Main Street business.

On Friday, around 3 p.m., a team of detectives executed a search warrant at Amir's Wine and Spirits, on Main Street.

The sting had its origins from intelligence gathered over several months indicating that Babiker was distributing cocaine from the premises while operating the liquor store, according to NRPD.

During the search, officers recovered two loaded handguns, a 9mm semi-automatic pistol, and a .32-caliber 2 shot Derringe, along with approximately 21 grams of cocaine packaged for street-level distribution, officials said.

Babiker was taken into custody and held without bail pending arraignment.

He is charged with two felony counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance and felony criminal possession of a stolen firearm.
