Proposed $359M New Rochelle School Budget On The Ballot May 20
Also on the ballot are five people vying for two seats on the school board, and one candidate for library board.
NEW ROCHELLE, NY — The 2025 budget and school board vote is May 20, and two seats are up for election on the New Rochelle Board of Education.
The proposed spending plan of $359,468,597 is 3.45 percent higher than the current budget.
The tax levy is expected to rise 3.95 percent. Since the property tax cap limit is exceeded by 0.33 percent, a 60 percent majority is needed.

"Over the past several years, a combination of financial pressures — including the lingering effects of COVID, lower-than-allowable tax levies, rising costs in health care and transportation, past use of district reserves, and the introduction of a new charter school — has created a signifcant budget deficit," Superintendent Corey W. Reynolds said.
Proposition #2 on the ballot will ask voters whether the district should use $1 to purchase property adjacent to New Rochelle High School (Clove Road and Flandreau Avenue) from the City of New Rochelle.

Two board seats will be up for election, for five-year terms.
Candidates running include: Myriam Decime, Elana Jacob, Jessica Klein, Rosa Rivera-McCutchen, and Keith Singletary.
In addition, current library board member Corey Galloway is running for a five-year term.
The New Rochelle Public Library is proposing a $7,377,667 budget, which is a 4.66 percent increase in the tax levy, amounting to $19.44 per household for the "average taxpayer."
The League of Women Voters hosted a candidate forum on May 12 to allow the candidates to make their cases directly to the voters. A recording of the forum with questions submitted by the public can be found here.
