Rejoice: Main Street Overnight Paving Begins Wednesday In New Rochelle

NEW ROCHELLE, NY — You might be seeing a lot less of your car mechanic soon, thanks to a major paving project, but there will be a few inconveniences in the meantime for those in the downtown area.

The City of New Rochelle announced that with the completion of a laundry list of downtown utility projects to upgrade electric, gas, water, sewer and stormwater systems, Main Street paving will begin on Wednesday.

Officials say that the work on the busy artery will take place overnight in sections from Pintard Ave. to Echo Ave., from 9 p.m. to 6 a.m., in order to minimize disruptions to daytime traffic and local businesses.

Unfortunately, since the paving process involves the use of heavy machinery, there will be nighttime noise.

No parking will be allowed from 8 p.m. to 6 a.m.

Work will be performed as conditions permit and weather may impact the schedule. Any updates will be posted on the city's paving calendar and on social media.

"The impact of these crucial infrastructure improvement projects has undoubtedly been challenging," Acting City Manager and Public Works Commissioner Wilfredo Melendez said. "However, the long-term benefits are well worth the effort. We appreciate the support and cooperation of residents and businesses as we enter the final phase of this project."

Milling October 9-10, Paving October 10-11

  • Main Street from Pintard to Centre Avenue
  • Centre Avenue between Main Street and Huguenot
  • Maple Ave from Shea Place to Main Street

Milling October 14-15, Paving October 16-17

  • Main Street from Centre Avenue to Memorial Highway
  • Main Street from Lawton Street to North Avenue
  • Division Street between Main Street and Huguenot

Milling October 15-16, Paving October 17-18

  • North Avenue from Main to Anderson Street
  • Le Count Place from Main to Anderson Street
  • Locust Avenue from Main Street to Clinton Place

Milling October 21-22,Paving October 22-23

  • Main Street from Locust Avenue to Echo Avenue
