GREENPORT, NY — A beautiful tradition is set to blossom again soon in Greenport as the annual Cherry Blossom Petal Tour and 5K unfolds.

Participants are invited to join the AgroCouncil in celebrating this year’s cherry blossom fun, with activities to benefit the Village of Greenport's tree committee and the Village of Greenport's Business Improvement District.

The mission of the AgroCouncil is to help preserve the heritage and economies of local agricultural and aquacultural communities through education and awareness, organizers said.

"The Greenport Cherry Blossom Petal Tour is much more than a guide for self-touring the variety of cherry blossom trees, but also the opportunity to experience the creativity of local Greenport businesses," organizers said.

The month-long event kicks off with the annual 5K Run for the Petals on Saturday, April 26 at 9 a.m., rain or shine. The same day, participating restaurants and shops will begin their month-long offer of cherry blossom-inspired drinks, desserts and gifts for the 2025 bloom.

Advance registration costs $35 and includes a T-shirt; day-of registration costs $40 day and does not include free t-shirt. To register, click here.

Also on Saturday, April 26 at noon, participants can enjoy the Cherry Blossom Petal Tour Map.

"Connect with nature, explore the walking Village of Greenport and support small businesses while exploring the month-long offerings in restaurants and shops in Greenport; a designated an official Tree City by the National Arbor Day Foundation," organizers said.

Next, on Saturday, May 3 at 1:30 p.m., a live performance by the Japanese Folk Institute, sponsored by CAST — the Center for Support and Transformation — at Holy Trinity Episcopal Church, located at 768 Main Street in Greenport. The event will feature dancers, drummers, musicians, and colorful costumes, followed by a workshop and treats.

Events to celebrate the blossoms will also include walks, art workshops, kids' crafts and coloring at the Greenport Library, and more.

The bloom spans parts of April and May, depending on the species of the trees and the weather. Free maps will be available at all participating businesses as well as the Village of Greenport, Greenport Library and AgroCouncil information center, organizers said.
