Man Fleeing Scene Of Crash Stopped In Front Of Police Station: PD

PECONIC, NY — A Peconic man was arrested as he tried to flee the scene of a crash — and was stopped in front of the police station, authorities said.

According to Southold Town police, the incident took place Saturday at 5:42 p.m. Esbin A. Ardon Lopez, 38, was involved in a minor two-car crash at the intersection of Route 25 and New Suffolk Road — and then left the scene before police arrived.

Ardon Lopez continued eastbound on Route 25, was located by officers and stopped in front of police headquarters; he was determined to be intoxicated and placed under arrest, police said.

Ardon Lopez was taken into police headquarters for processing and held to await arraignment at Southold Town Justice Court, police said.
