In May, Shawn Petretti, Superintendent of Schools, reached out to the district with the news that the prior candidate could no longer fill the position.
"His resignation was accepted by the Board during the May 16 board meeting. I am pleased to announce that Patrick K. Burke will be appointed as our new high school principal by the Board during a Special Meeting of the Board of Education on Tuesday, May 28," Petretti wrote.
"Mr. Burke is a highly experienced educator and effective administrator and has served the Riverhead Central School District for the past 25 years. He is currently serving as principal of Pulaski Street Intermediate School and prior to that served as the assistant principal of Riverhead High School. He brings a wealth of knowledge and experience with a proven ability to connect with students, staff and families. He is known for his collaborative approach to promote the common goal of improving opportunities and increasing success for all students," Petretti said.
Burke, Petretti added, has a Master’s degree in history and a Bachelor of Arts in social science from Stony Brook University; he holds both advanced school district and school building leader permanent certifications.
"I hope you will join in welcoming Mr. Burke to Mattituck High School, our school district and our community," Petretti said.
