Orient Man Caught With Heroin, Crack In Vehicle Outside 7-Eleven: PD

He was arrested early Friday, after an anonymous caller said he did not appear "fit to drive," police say.

GREENPORT, NY — An Orient man was arrested early Friday after he was found with heroin and crack in his vehicle in Greenport, police said.

According to Southold Town police, the incident took place at 12:42 a.m. An anonymous caller reported the driver of a vehicle parked at the Greenport 7-Eleven "did not appear to be fit to drive."

Officers responded and located the vehicle, which was turned off and parked in a space, police said.

William Mokus, 31, was in the driver's seat; there was also a passenger in the vehicle, police said.

Both appeared to be under the influence of narcotics; what appeared to be drug paraphernalia was observed in the center console of the vehicle, police said.

The passenger gave the officers consent to search the vehicle and prior to that search, Mokus admitted to officers that there was heroin and crack in the vehicle, police said.

A search yielded several illicit drugs, police said.

Mokus was placed under arrest, charged with three counts of criminal possession of a controlled substance, and transported to Southold Town police headquarters for processing, where he was released on an appearance ticket for a court appearance at a later date, police said.
