Police: Residents Report Ransacked Homes By Alleged 'Disgruntled' Burglar
Locals report two separate incidents of attempted burglaries that left their homes ransacked — but not much was stolen, Southold Town Police report.

Two North Fork residents reported to police last week that, in two separate instances, an alleged burglar broke into their homes and ransacked certain rooms in their houses, but both found that not much was missing, Southold Town Police said.
A 73-year-old Southold woman reported to police on May 18 at 2:18 p.m. that after she had returned from a hair appointment that day she noticed that a side door of her Mill Creek Drive home had been kicked open and that the master bedroom had been ransacked and eggs had been smashed on the ceiling and front doorway, but the woman was uncertain if anything was missing, police said.

"The suspect was apparently disgruntled with their findings," police said in the report.
Police picked up a tire track in the backyard that went in a northern direction. They are still investigating the incident.

In similar scenario, a 53-year-old Cutchogue man reported to police on May 19 that someone pried open a rear window of his Bridge Lane home, went through his cabinets and drawers and stole only a headband flashlight worth $20, police said. The incident is still under investigation.
