Police: Southold Man Charged With DWI After Fleeing Accident Scene

Southold Town Police charge a man with driving while intoxicated and other offenses after the man ran from the scene of a crash.

The following information was supplied by the Southold Town Police Department. A criminal charge is only an accusation, and does not indicate convictions.

Enver Zorluoglu, 34, of Cedar Drive in Southold, was charged with driving while intoxicated, leaving the scene of an accident, and driving with a suspended license, no registration and no insurance on Dec. 31 at 8:34 p.m in Cutchogue.

Zorluoglu was involved in an accident at the corner of Route 25 and Depot Lane in Cutchogue, which left his vehicle with only three wheels after a driver's side tire came off the vehicle, police said. Zorluoglu then left the scene, driving a half a mile on three wheels, parking the car between two commercial buildings on Eugene's Road and then fleeing on foot, police said. Police apprehended the defendant a short time later, locating him underneath a tractor trailer. He was found to be intoxicated, arrested and transported to police headquarters in Peconic, where he was processed and held for arraignment.
