Southold Runner Reportedly in a Coma After Collapse Upstate

Mother of Ronan Guyer asks community for prayers as son remains in hospital.

A Southold student reportedly remains in a medically-induced coma after collapsing on Friday, during a warm-up on the eve of the New York State Public High School Athletic Association cross country championships in Elma.

According to the Suffolk Times, Southold freshman Ronan Guyer's mother, Lori, said on Facebook over the weekend that the cross-country runner "is fighting for his life and we need a miracle.”

Ronan was one of a handful of Southold runners at a statewide meet near Buffalo.

Monday morning, a friend posted the following message on Facebook from Lori, however its accuracy could not be immediately confirmed: "The latest update for Ronan is that his major organs are showing signs of improvement, his heart is near normal, and the ct scan of his brain showed no signs of swelling ...

"We have seen the power of prayer first hand. I cannot thank the community our friends and family enough for your prayers and support. Please continue to pray for our son, we know that it is working."

Over the weekend, some twitter users took to social media to ask for prayers for the Guyer family as well.
