Things to do This Week on the North Fork

This week's events include live music on Columbus Day, a speaker about progressive education and more.

Looking for something to do this week? Here are a few items from our calendar that might be worth your time.

  • Jon Divello live on Columbus Day: Take some time out of your holiday to relax, kick back and listen to some live music. Jon Divello, a frequent live performer on the North Fork, will be playing at Peconic Bay Winery from 1 to 5 p.m.
  • Southold Town Board: Southold's elected board members have their bi-weekly work session discussion on Tuesday morning, followed by a 4:30 p.m. board meeting.
  • Drug Free Coalition: North Fork Alliance, a group aimed at building awareness about substance abuse issues, is holding its first 2012-2013 coalition meeting Tuesday from 10 to 11 a.m. at the Cutchogue-New Suffolk Library.
  • Education Initiative Speaker Series: One in a yearlong series aimed at exploring progressive education, Joe McKay will be speaking on the process of lifelong learning on Wednesday night starting at 7 p.m. at the East End Arts School on E. Main Street in Riverhead.
  • Free Film Series/Discussion: A viewing of Vittorio De Sica's "A Brief Vacation" will be played Thursday at 6 p.m. at Floyd Memorial Library, followed by a potluck dinner and discussion of the film.
