Video and Photos: Hospital Emergency Dock Rededicated in Electrician's Memory
The only emergency dock in Suffolk County is rededicated to Sal Prato.
Finished in 2003, the emergency dock at is the unique and helpful aspect of a hospital located on a peninsula overlooking Stiring Harbor in Greenport.
Before he died in 2009, Greenport resident Sal Prato was instrumental in lobbying for construction of the dock — the only one in Suffolk County — funded in large part by donations from community members.
Staff members and trustees of Eastern Long Island Hospital, family members of Sal Prato and local politicians spoke at a ceremony rededicating the dock to Prato's memory this past Thursday.

"The plaque reads: 'A gift to Eastern Long Island Hospital from the concerned citizens it serves' — those were Sal's words," said Tom Murray, chairman of the hospital's Board of Trustees. "He wanted everyone to know that this dock was built for the people, by the people. However, this dock was Sal's vision."
