Woman Charged With DWAI By Alcohol After Hitting Bicyclist Police
The woman initially left the scene but soon returned, showing signs of impairment, police say.
SHELTER ISLAND, NY — A Port Washington woman was arrested and charged with driving while ability impaired by alcohol after hitting a bicyclist on Shelter Island Saturday, police said.
According to Shelter Island police, the incident took place at 2:03 p.m.; Jane E. Aterno, 65, struck the bicyclist, then left the scene, but returned soon after, showing signs of impairment, police said.
She was arrested and charged with DWAI and overtaking a bicycle, processed, and issued a desk appearance ticket for a later court date, police said.
