Woman Who Crashed Into Drugstore Had Foot Caught On Accelerator: PD

She crashed into the curb and then into the building, police say.

GREENPORT, NY — The woman, 85, who crashed into Greenport Drugs last week had her foot stuck on the accelerator, police said.

According to Southold Town police, the incident took place on Thursday at 12:27 p.m. when the woman, who was driving a 2014 Jeep Compass in the parking lot of the store on Route 25 in Greenport, attempted to pull into a parking space.

However, police said, her foot got stuck on the accelerator, and she continued forward, first striking a curb and then striking the west side building door entrance, police said.

The complained of leg pain; she was transported by Greenport Fire Department ambulance to Eastern Long Island Hospital, where she was treated for minor injuries, police said

The building's doors were heavily damaged and the vehicle sustained some front end damage, police said.
