Benjamin Moore to Use Local Workers to Paint Nyack 'Main Street'

Benjamin Moore announced Monday that Nyack is one of 20 communities selected in its 2013 Main Street Matters program, but that is just the beginning.

"This is where the rubber hits the road," said Benjamin Moore Vice President of Marketing Nick Harris. "We are delighted to be putting paint to building facade very, very soon. Especially in Nyack."

Harris said the paint company did not have target dates to complete the work, but Benjamin Moore sent out information to the Village of Nyack Monday. Nyack Mayor Jen Laird-White said they had asked for names and contact information for local contractors. They will also be working with Herbl Lack Paints and Hardware, which carries Benjamin Moore products.

"It is very important to us to find business partners to partner with in the communities," Harris said. "Paint Contractors and the local retailers will be integral in the community on Main Street.

"It may vary from town to town. We envision (Benjamin Moore) retailers as being champions of helping facilitate the work. The paint supplies will go through the retailer in town. We hope they become that cheerleader of Main Street and the revitalization of Main Street. We want them involved beyond the transactional nature."

One thing still to be determined is exactly which buildings will be painted. Harris said it will be roughly three blocks in each location, but this it will be different for each community.

"Our understanding is that every Main Street looks a little different across North America," Harris said. "Our commitment is to revitalize three city blocks. We will work individually with each Main Street to identify what those areas are.

"We want to leave Main Street looking great and we won't leave until all feel that it does"

Harris said that due to the response to the program, Benjamin Moore plans to do Main Street Matters again in 2014.

"We know we struck a chord with Americans and North Americans," said Harris. "We foresee this effort as ongoing now. You can expect to see Main Street Matters in 2014 as well. We want to pledge an ongoing commitment to making Main Streets what they should be, the heart of a community."
