Cops Rescue Trapped Residents From Nyack House Fire: PD
Three officers and three residents were taken to hospitals for medical treatment, according to police.
NYACK, NY — Police saved three people who were trapped inside a burning residence on Summit Street early Sunday, even pulling one unconscious man down a stairwell to safety.
Three residents and three police officers had to be transported to area hospitals, officials said.
Orangetown Police Lt. Nicholas Whalen said the fire happened around 3:15 a.m. on Summit Street in the village of Nyack Sunday morning.

When police arrived, they heard voices inside the burning house yelling for help, police said, in a news release.
Police ran in and found a man and an elderly female attempting to escape, and officers helped them both out.

Police learned another male was on the second floor, which was “engulfed in flames,” police said.
Two Orangetown police officers then crawled up the stairs and found an unconscious man on the floor, according to Whalen. The officers pulled the man down the stairwell and out of the house to safety, police said.
The unconscious man was taken to Westchester Medical Center for treatment, and the two other residents were taken to Nyack Hospital. Their conditions were not immediately available on Monday.
Three Orangetown police officers were transported to Nyack Hospital for treatment.
The Nyack Fire Department extinguished the blaze, with assistance from Central Nyack, Orangeburg, Valley Cottage, Piermont and West Nyack Fire Departments. The Nyack, Nanuet, Congers, and South Orangetown Ambulance Corps, as well as Rockland Paramedics Services were also on scene.
The American Red Cross will be helping the residents who were displaced by the fire.
An investigation to determine the cause of the fire is ongoing as of Monday.
Orangetown Supervisor Teresa Kenny said in a Facebook post, “Thanks to the brave Orangetown Police Officers who jumped into action and helped prevent a tragedy.”
“While three officers were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation, they are expected to be fine,” Kenny said.
