Monday, Aug. 19 

  • A sure sign of the approach of the new school year will become apparent on athletic fields and in pools and gyms all over the area Monday. Fall varsity and JV sports practices open today, the first day Section 1 allows teams to take the field.
Tuesday, Aug. 20
  • The Rockland County Legislature's budget and finance committee will discuss the 2011 and 2012 audits for Summit Park Hospital & Nursing Care Center and the 2012 audit of the county budget at a meeting 7 p.m. Tuesday. 
  • Levity Live Comedy Club in Palisades Center Mall will hold a fundraiser to benefit people with disabilities at 7:30 p.m. Tickets for the stand-up comedy show cost $15 per person with a two-item minimum per person required. Must be 18 or older. To find out more, click here
  • The Nyack Public Schools Board of Education meets Tuesday, with the public session set to begin at 7:30 p.m. in the district administration building on Dickinson Ave. The board is expected to set a special meeting regarding a referendum for capital spending that could be put to the public next May.
