Goodbye Balmy, Hello Heat: Hudson Valley Forecast

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Temperatures are climbing as we near the summer solstice.

"The pattern for the northeastern United States will be a 'tale of two weeks' as low humidity and cool to seasonable air much of this week are replaced with surging heat this weekend and the first heat wave of the season for millions next week," said Alex Sosnowski, AccuWeather senior meteorologist.

Temps in the region will jump from Wednesday to Thursday, then showers and thunderstorms on Friday will move us back into the low 80s for a beautiful June weekend. The heat will build again June 17-24, Sosnowski said.

"By Tuesday next week, we are peering at a potential 4-day Heat Wave. We elevate to consecutive days of at least 90°F. Dare I say even a day or two flirting with 100°F," Bruce Furbeck of First Due Weather said on Facebook.

Here's the 7-day forecast based on New City:

• Today - Partly sunny, with a high near 79. Calm wind becoming northwest around 5 mph in the afternoon.

• Thursday - Sunny, with a high near 88. Calm wind becoming south 5 to 9 mph in the morning.
