HUDSON VALLEY, NY — More snow, sleet and freezing rain are forecast to fall during the day on Tuesday, creating slippery road conditions throughout the region and causing closings and delays. Then temperatures will drop further.

The National Weather Service issued winter weather advisories through 7 p.m. Tuesday evening for Dutchess, Orange, Putnam, Rockland, Ulster and Westchester counties. Total snowfall will likely be 2-4 inches in the lower Hudson Valley and 3-5 inches in the mid-Hudson, the NWS predicted.

"As the low pressure moves northeast ... some mixing with sleet and freezing rain is possible by late morning in Rockland and Westchester counties," Bill Potter of Hudson Valley Weather said on Facebook. "The snow will taper off from west to east between 2pm and 6pm."

Hazardous conditions will affect roads all day with snow and/or wintry mix ending during the evening commute, the NWS said.

"Motorists and pedestrians should use extra caution as many accidents occur after the storm as runoff and puddles freeze rather than as the snow falls," said Alex Sosnowski, AccuWeather senior meteorologist.

Temperatures are expected to drop.

"It gets COLD tonight, lows between 10°F and 15°F, even colder potentially in some spots," Bruce Furbeck of First Due Weather said on Facebook. "Windchills rather brutal for our expectations, -5°F to 5°F."

The NWS said temps will likely remain below freezing across the region through Sunday night, averaging 10-15 degrees below normal. Single digits wind chills will hover above/below zero Wednesday morning and Saturday AM to Sunday AM.

Plus, there's a 10-30 percent chance of snow Thursday night. "At this time this looks to be a prolonged light snow event, but more clarity is expected through midweek," the National Weather Service said.

"Like the storm into Tuesday, odds are against a widespread heavy snowfall, but it will have to be watched for last-minute strengthening, which could result in heavier precipitation," Sosnowski said.
