Icy Morning Commute, Snow Could Follow: NWS Issues 2 Alerts

Two school districts have delays this morning.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — Patchy black ice is likely on untreated roadways early Tuesday morning, the National Weather Service warned in a special statement.

Slow down and exercise caution if traveling early this morning.

Both the East Ramapo and the Poughkeepsie school districts announced 2-hour delays on the WHUD Storm Center.

The NWS also warned of more snow possible overnight Wednesday, issuing hazardous outlooks for Orange, Putnam, Rockland, and Westchester.

A light snowfall accumulation could result in snow-covered and icy roads for the Thursday morning commute. Monitor subsequent forecasts for updates on this event.

Dangerous wind chills near advisory criteria are expected, especially over the high terrain, Thursday night into Friday morning and possibly again Friday night into Saturday. If confidence increases, wind chill advisories may be needed.

What's causing it all is another wave of Arctic air advancing southeastward from Canada, said Alex Sosnowski, AccuWeather senior meteorologist.
