Missing Man Found In Nyack State Beach Park

Authorities said the man who was missing for about a day had fallen in a steep, heavily wooded area of the park.

NYACK, NY — A man reported as missing was found after falling in Nyack State Beach Park.

The Clarkstown Police Department said, around 4:45 p.m. Tuesday, officers responded to a home in Upper Nyack for a report of a missing adult man.

The wife of the missing man said her husband had left their home earlier in the day on foot, and she hadn’t heard from him. She added that he frequently takes walks in the Nyack beach area.

An exhaustive search conducted by patrol officers, a K-9 unit and a drone of the surrounding neighborhood, Nyack State Beach and Hook Mountain did not lead to finding the man.

Around 8:10 a.m. Wednesday, the police received a call from New York State park rangers saying that a jogger had heard a man yelling for help in a heavily wooded area along the Nyack Beach trail.

The jogger directed officers to the area she last heard the man yelling, and the man, who was injured, was found in steep, rough terrain.

Police said the man was identified as the missing person from Tuesday.

He had to be rescued using the Nyack Fire Department High Angle Rescue Team, and he was place in a stokes basket and raised up to a hiking trail, where Rockland Medics and Nyack Ambulance took him to Montefiore Nyack Hospital

The man had injuries that were not considered life-threatening.

Authorities said the rescue efforts took about two hours from when his screams for help were first heard.
