New Coach Leads Nyack Volleyball

New Head Coach Christian Collazo brings expectations for improvement to a Nyack volleyball team that returns four starters after going 2-11 in 2012.

"This year we have the pieces to put together a good and competitive season," Collazo said. "The girls are focus and excited about getting out on the court and proving they have the team to compete every game. The team is aiming for a winning season and to make the playoffs."

The Indians return senior Sophia Owen at setter. Senior Aliya Colimon and junior Emily Lazarus should see time in the middle with senior Cheslea Miller outside and junior Lessie Carrerra as an opposite. Senior Maya Berna and sophomore Megan Sneeden will pla both outside and in the middle.

Collazzo said a number of newcomers could make an impact this season, including freshman Nicole Andreotti at opposite, freshman Bella Baroni and Jenna Lane outside, sophomore Dawn Bozeat in the middle and sophomore Alyssa Sullivan at setter.

Nyack will open its season by competing in the Sleepy Hollow Tournament Saturday morning at Sleepy Hollow High School.
