Next Winter Storm Due With More Flooding Threats To The Hudson Valley
It starts this evening. Cold air will rush in behind it, and another storm is already lined up. Here's the latest.

HUDSON VALLEY, NY — A new, strong storm system will bring heavy rain and gusty winds to the region late Friday into Saturday, the National Weather Service said in its morning briefing.
"Minor and moderate flooding possibilities are being projected from this event due to saturated soils and chock-full waterways," Bruce Furbeck of First Due Weather said on Facebook.
The storm is expected to dump only half the rain that Wednesday's storm did — 1.5 to 2.5 inches — but much of it will fall in less than 12 hours, between 10 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m. Saturday. Plus streamflows are running very high and soil moisture is well above normal, the NWS said.

There's a moderate flood threat for several quick responding small rivers and streams, including the Hackensack River at West Nyack in Rockland County, and the Bronx River, Sprain Brook, Saw Mill River, and Hutchinson Rivers in Westchester. River flooding will likely be exacerbated along the tidal reaches of rivers Saturday morning during time of high tide.
Plus the potential is for widespread minor urban and poor drainage flooding tonight into Saturday morning. Isolated flash flooding is possible. This will likely cause scattered disruptions to transportation and scattered flooding of basements, with minor flooding of first floors of residences and businesses as well as some underground infrastructures possible.

Much of the Hudson Valley is under a flood watch and southern Westchester is also under a coastal flood warning.
There, widespread minor to moderate coastal flooding (1 ½ to 2 ft above ground) is expected. Potential Impacts: Some roads and low-lying property including parking lots, parks, lawns and homes/businesses with basements near the waterfront will experience minor flooding. High tide is Saturday morning.
It will be windy, though not reaching the levels of Wednesday's storm.

Still, the National Weather Service said, the southeast wind direction and saturated soils tonight may increase the wind's impact on trees and power lines.
A gale warning has been issued for the Long Island Sound.
Here are the next 48 hours at a glance, based on New City:

Temperatures will drop sharply, bringing real Arctic cold to the Hudson Valley. At 5 a.m. Saturday it'll be 50 degrees, but at 5 a.m. Sunday, it'll be freezing.
Among meteorolgists, the conversation has already shifted to the next storm, coming mid-week, said the folks at Hudson Valley Weather.
