Nyack Field Hockey Carries High Expectations

The Nyack field hockey team opens the 2013 season returning eight starters after winning a second consecutive league championship last fall.

"The Nyack field hockey team is coming into its season with high expectations," said Nyack Head Coach Cheryl Baker. "We are working towards winning our third league championship in a row. We know we need to work hard to increase our fitness and pace of our game. We need to learn with each game and work hard to build on our strengths and improve our weaknesses.

Senior forward Taylor Sullivan will lead the offense for Nyack, with senior defender Moira Ungerleider and senior goalie Alexis Kydon will be keys to keeping the opposition off the scoreboard.

Nyack also returns four players in the midfield -- senior Alanna Falcicchio, juniors Erika Viviano and Adriana Scala and freshman Arielle Rodriguez. Senior forward Nicolette Paletta and senior defender Jenna Garbett should also be key contributors again.

Baker said that freshman forward/midfielder Arleigh Rodrgers could also make an impact.

Nyack will play it season opener at Pleasantville 11 a.m. Saturday.
