We all know students who excel in academic, fine arts or volunteer service. Here's one local resident who had an impact in Nyack.

NYACK, NY — Star Students are found in classrooms, on concert and theater stages and at debate lecterns, and out in the community doing good things to make life better for all of us.

Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize Star Students, and we’re working to tell the stories of these outstanding kids to their neighbors.

This submission comes from Cherish Marie Pratt who nominated her daughter Miya Sophia, a Nyack High School graduate.

How do you know the star local student?

I am an admirer and mother

Why do you believe the star local student should be recognized?

Where do I begin? Miya has been a star for as long as I can remember, always thoughtful, kind, fun and considerate of others. She was a student at Green Meadow Waldorf School and graduated from Nyack High School with Honors and one year of college credits earned.

Miya is currently studying Architecture in the Sustainability vein at the University of Colorado at Boulder. She is an outstanding student who shines in this program and is surrounded by a constellation of talented and amazing friends who help her shine. Miya applies herself daily to her work, putting long hours into her assignments. She often shares her design pieces for the living environment with family via text and they are all in awe. Miya loves animals and the outdoors, and is wonderful with children. She is just a beautiful young woman who is a tremendous amount of fun! She will succeed with whatever endeavor she chooses. We are blessed to have her in our lives.

What's one thing you want everyone to know about the star local student?

Miya Sophia is a change maker who cares about important social and environmental issues. She is someone to watch out for!

Congratulations on your achievements, and all of our best wishes to you in the future, Miya Sophia!
