Nyack, Piermont Voters Guide 2023: Local, Regional Elections

Registered voters in Rockland don't have to wait until Nov. 7 to cast their ballots — there will be nine early-voting days.

NYACK, NY — Voting starts Saturday in the 2023 general election, which features local races. Registered voters in Piermont and Nyack don’t have to wait until Nov. 7 to cast their ballots — there will be nine early-voting days before the General Election.

On the ballot

Propositions

There will be two state-wide constitutional amendment proposals on the ballot this year. Both involve debt limits for local governments and school districts.

The first removes the special constitutional debt limitation now placed on small city school districts, so they will be treated the same as all other school districts. The second extends for 10 years the authority of counties, cities, towns, and villages to remove debt for the construction of sewage facilities from their constitutional debt limit.

There is an election for Supreme Court Justice in the 9th Judicial District. Vote for four.

Rockland County

County-wide, District Attorney Thomas E. Walsh, Sheriff Louis Falco and Family Court Judge Christopher Exias are running unopposed for re-election.

There are elections for every seat on the Rockland Board of Legislators, but only nine are contested races. Plus, longtime lawmakers Harriet Cornell, Chris Carey, Laurie Santulli, Michael Grant and Vincent Tyer are not seeking re-election.

Two people seek to replace Sweet as Town Clerk: Jeffrey M. Greenberg (Democrat) and Lauren M. Wohl (Republican, Conservative).

Five people are vying for three Town Justice positions:

Orangetown

Town Supervisor Teresa M. Kenny is unopposed, as is Town Clerk Rosanna Sfraga, Town Justice Patrick J. Loftus, and Highway Superintendent James J. Dean.

Four people are vying for two seats on the Town Council.

Nyack

Joseph W. Rand is running unopposed for mayor, and Robert S. Knoebel, Jr. is running unopposed for village justice. Three people are running for two seats on the Village Board of Trustees.

Piermont

Voting on Election Day

Look up your polling site on the Rockland County Board of Elections website. You can see a sample ballot there, too.

Absentee ballots

Absentee ballots may be returned in person to the Rockland County Board of Elections during regular business hours. A secure drop box is located outside the office main entrance at 11 New Hempstead Road in New City, NY for after-hours drop off.

Absentee Ballots may also be returned via mail or dropped off at a polling place during early voting and on election day. After hours return is not available on Election Day. The deadline to return your ballot is 9 p.m. The ballot box kiosk will be closed and locked promptly at 9 p.m. on the day of the General Election.
