Nyack’s Farmers’ Market Moves Back Outdoors April 6

After wintering indoors at the Nyack Center, the market moves back outdoors on Thursday, April 6 for its 20th year.

From the Nyack Chamber of Commerce: Fresh produce...breads, pies, cookies...cheese... grass-fed beef...seafood…honey...eggs…the list of delights goes on as foodies, friends and families welcome the new season at Nyack’s Farmers’ Market., now in its 20th year. After wintering indoors at the Nyack Center, the Market moves back outdoors on Thursday, April 6 from 8:00am to 2:00pm in the Main Street parking lot.

The community is invited to celebrate the Market’s 20 th anniversary; shop returning vendors, such as American Pride Seafood, Campanelli’s Poultry Farm, Hummingbird Ranch, R&G Produce, Warwick Valley Winery and DOC Pickles; and sample spring's early harvest from local farms like the Orchards of Concklin, Blooming Hill Farm and Rockland Farm Alliance. Exciting new vendors include Let Them Eat Pita and The Lazy Candle.

Marking the 20th anniversary, musicians who have shared their talent with the Market over the years — including Jeff Doctorow, Kimberly Hawkey and Jeff Rubin ― will come together on opening day for a special performance. But entertainment provided by local musicians is not just for special occasions. It’s one of the Market’s weekly features, along with visual artists, nutrition education and lots of fun activities for the kids.

Returning to the Market for a third year, Cornell Cooperative Extension Rockland County will be at the Market every week offering a variety of rotating programs presented by the Master Gardener Volunteers and the nutrition educator from Eat Smart NY. Environmental education will be another featured program, focused on educating the public about the Hudson River fish advisory.

The Eat Smart New York nutrition educator will alternate workshops on a variety of topics, including quick, healthy meals and snacks, eating healthy on a budget, and making healthy eating part of a total lifestyle.

“Now in its 20th year, the Nyack Farmers’ Market is one of the oldest markets in the tri-state area,” said Scott Baird, President of the Nyack Chamber. “It has stood the test of time as a great way to boost business, support healthy lifestyles and protect our environment.”

Attracting upwards of 1,000 shoppers every Thursday, the Market’s 29 regular vendors and 12 rotating vendors offer a broad array of local products — including cut flowers; farm fresh/organic fruits and vegetables; free-range eggs; fresh pickles, sauerkraut and olives; fresh baked goods; honey and maple syrup; coffee; gluten-free baked goods; hummus and Middle Eastern delicacies; handmade cheeses; fine local wines…and more. Shoppers can also get their cooking tools up to snuff with help from X-Calibur Knife and Scissor Sharpener.

“Today, there’s wide demand for foods provided by local, eco-friendly farmers, artisans and producers,” said Pam Moskowitz, Market Manager and Nyack Chamber representative. “We’re pleased to continue to meet that demand and serve our community with food and fun.”

The 2017 Nyack Farmers’ Market Advisory Board includes Rich Concklin from The Orchards of Concklin, Joy Macy of Bluefield Farm Flowers, Debra Sadowsky of Mostly Myrtle’s, Wil Tyler of Pie Lady & Son, Thelma Kiernan of Kiernan Farms and Pam Moskowitz of the Chamber.

The 2017 Market is sponsored by Green Mountain Energy Company (White Plains), Blue Rock School (West Nyack), Solar Maximum (Nyack) and Sprint. Media sponsors/supporters include Rivertown magazine, Nyack News and Views and Natural Awakenings.

“We appreciate all of our supporters, and look forward to another successful Market season,” said Baird. “It’s a great place to stroll, shop and enjoy the fruits of the hard work our local farms and businesses do every day.”
