Rockland BOCES Students Win in State Competition

Rockland BOCES SkillsUSA members had one of their best outings ever at this year’s New York State SkillsUSA Competition. Thirty seven career and technical education students traveled to the competition in Syracuse and six came back to Rockland BOCES with medals around their necks and tremendous pride in their success.

Jake Nugent, Nanuet High School student in BOCES electrical trades program was awarded first place in the electrical wiring competition. Evan Bay, a Suffern High School student in the carpentry program  took second place in the carpentry assistant category. Graphic design student Amanda Niedelman from Clarkstown South took second place in the Pin/T-Shirt design competition.

TV/Video Production student Grant Eizikowitz, a North Rockland student, teamed with Tina Nicolucci of Nanuet to take third place in the TV/Video Production category. Karl Brandt from Pearl River was awarded third place Pin/T-Shirt design category.

At this annual state competition, career and technical education students compete against their peers, as their technical and professional skills are tested through hands-on and written contests.

The students were accompanied by SkillsUSA advisor Patrick Mitrione, guidance counselors Rosalie Sauter  and Lorraine Mahon and construction trades teacher Eric Kurz. District Superintendent Dr. Mary Jean Marsico and Asst. to the Superintedent Cathy O'Brien also attended.
