Monday, Sept. 9

• Classes start in local public school districts. 
• The Orangetown Town Council meets at 7:30 p.m. Monday at town hall. The meeting was moved up from its usual Tuesday due to the primary elections. The full agenda and supporting materials for the meeting can be found here. 

• Polls will be open throughout Rockland County from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m. for the Primary Election.  Democrats David Fried and Ilan Schoenberger are vying for their party line for county executive and Vladimir Leon is seeking write-in votes. Also key votes are the Democratic line for Rockland County Executive, the Republican line for Orangetown Town Council and Independence Party for Orangetown Receiver of Taxes. • The Nyack Public Schools Board of Education meets in the administration building at 13A Dickinson Ave. in Nyack, with the public session at 7:30 p.m. The full agenda can be found here. 

• Memorial Services remembering the victims of 9/11 take place from early morning until the evening. Rockland Community College holds a service at 8:15 a.m. and Rockland County begins its service at 8:30 a.m. at Haverstraw Bay County Park. Orangetown will hold its service at 6:30 p.m. on the lawn at town hall and Nyack will have a ceremony at 6:30 p.m. by the steps in Memorial Park.  
  

• Freedom Day USA, a day to thank military families.
• Due to the Jewish holiday Friday and Saturday, the Tappan Zee High School football team (1-0) will play its home opener 6 p.m. Thursday against Horace Greeley. The Nyack football team will look to improve its record to 2-0 when it plays at Byram Hills 3 p.m. Sunday.  

• The Jewish day of atonement, Yom Kippur, begins at sundown.
