Primary Day Slow in Nyack, Piermont, Beyond

Only a limited number of candidates will battle to be their party's champion

Before lawmakers lose, win or keep their seats come November, candidates within the same party will battle it out at the polls for a chance to be their party's champion.

Primaries are slated for Thursday, Sept. 13, moved from Tuesday as to not overlap with the .

Local primaries

There will be no primary elections in Nyack or South Nyack.

State Senate primaries

District 38 -- Incumbent Democrat David Carlucci and Republican Janis Castaldi will face no opposition from within their respective parties.

State assembly primaries

District 96 -- Incumbent Democrat Kenneth Zebrowski and Republican Matthew Brennan will face no opposition from their respective parties. Zebrowksi faces Matthew T. Katchmar will battle it out for the Independence Party nomination.

District 97 -- Incumbent Democrat Ellen Jaffee and Republican Joseph Gravagna will face no opposition from their respective parties.
