Sprinkler Fitters, Finishing Trades Seek Apprentices In The HV
The two unions' recruitment periods start in May. One is for 10 days and one is a year long.
Two unions will start apprentice recruitment drives in May for which Hudson Valley residents are eligible. One will be a year long, the other just 10 days.
Sprinkler Fitters
The Sprinkler Fitters, Local Union No. 669, will conduct a recruitment from May 1 through April 30, 2023 for 31 apprentices. The 31 openings represent the total number for four recruitment regions - the Capital District, Central, Hudson Valley, and Western regions of the state.

Applications can be obtained online or in person during the recruitment period. All applications must be received by April 30, 2023.
In person, they'll be available in Newburgh and at three other locations between the hours of 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding legal holidays:

The Committee requires that applicants:
- Must be at least 18 years old. Proof will be required after selection and prior to enrollment in apprenticeship.
- Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED). Proof must be presented at time of interview.
- Must be physically able to perform the work of a Sprinkler Fitter, as determined by a physical examination, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to enrollment in apprenticeship.
- Must pass a drug test, at the expense of the sponsor, after selection and prior to enrollment in apprenticeship.
- Must provide DD-214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, if applicable, after selection and prior to enrollment in apprenticeship.
- Must be willing to travel to various job sites.
- Must have reliable transportation to and from various job sites and required classes at the approved school.
- Must provide proof of any previous related work experience or college credit.

Finishing Trades
The Finishing Trades Institute of New York will conduct a recruitment from May 6 through May 19 for 50 glazier apprentices.
The 50 openings represent the total number for three recruitment regions – the Hudson Valley, Long Island, and New York City regions.
This is a limited-application recruitment. Only 500 applications will be distributed, on a first-come, first-served basis. The recruitment will be offered for 10 business days or until 500 applications have been issued, whichever comes first.
Applications can be obtained in person only, from the Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee for the Finishing Trades Institute of New York, 45-15 36th Street, Long Island City, NY 11101, from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday, during the recruitment period.
The Committee requires that applicants:
- Must be at least 18 years old.
- Must have a high school diploma or a high school equivalency diploma (such as TASC or GED). Proof will be required after selection and prior to enrollment in apprenticeship.
- Must be physically able to perform the work required, as determined by a site evaluation and personal statement. More information will be provided during a mandatory 3-day orientation.
- Must sign an affidavit stating that they are physically able to perform the work of a glazier, which may include:
- Lifting and carrying material and equipment up to 70 pounds.
- Working from ladders, scaffolds, lifts, and suspended scaffolds
- Must be able to read, hear, and understand instructions and warnings in English.
- Must take a mandatory drug testing after selection and prior to enrollment and random throughout apprenticeship.

Apprentice programs registered with the Department of Labor must meet standards established by the Commissioner. Under state law, sponsors of programs cannot discriminate against applicants because of race, creed, color, national origin, age, sex, disability, or marital status. Sponsors of programs are required to adopt affirmative action plans for the recruitment of women and minorities.
